Online, Webcam, and Telephone Therapy

The consensus of opinion has long been that therapy needed to involve the interaction of two people in the same room at the same time. Modern technology now allows for a broader range of therapy options. Through the use of online real-time instant messaging, the web cam, as well as e-mails, faxes, and the “old-fashioned” telephone, therapy can be conducted from the convenience and privacy of your own home.

Research has been conducted to evaluate the value of these different types of therapy. It has been shown that they can be effective especially in specific situations:

* Medical issues may limit your ability to get to a therapist’s office.

* For some people it is easier to talk on the phone rather than in person, especially about traumatic or stigmatizing events.

* Writing and reading about issues rather than talking and listening can be more effective in helping some individuals pause and reflect. Ideas are given time to be incorporated into thought processes and behavior.

* Transportation issues can keep a person from seeking the help he or she needs.

Often a mixture of in-person sessions together with these newer types of therapy presents the most effective use of one’s time and money. This can be determined on an individual basis.

If the idea of therapy through modern technology appeals to you, whether due to convenience, privacy, or practicality, I am willing to set up a schedule and a style that works for you.

Fees will be individualized and determined by the amount of time involved in our communications. Credit cards are accepted to add to the convenience of the process.
